Initialize Your Account

Students

  1. Read all steps in this process then proceed to step 9 to initialize your account.
  2. Read the METNET E-Mail policy. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
    - Click 'I Agree' to continue to initialize your account and be forwarded to the E-Mail Account Set-Up page.
    - If you click on 'I Disagree', your account will not be initialized.
  3. Enter the following information to activate your account:
    - Your Tech ID number (often the same as student number)
    - Your college
    - A password, which is six to eight characters long and contains both letters and numbers. Password is case-sensitive. Choose a password that will not be easy for others to guess.
Record Your Password. Password cannot be looked up. If you forget it the only recourse is to have it reset.
  4. A confirmation page (titled E-mail Account Initialized) will appear.
This page has your METNET account information including Internet ID (Example: jone0012 - also called username) and e-mail address (Example: jone0012@metnet.edu).  Print the confirmation page for future reference. This is needed to login to your account.
Record Your Internet ID and E-mail Address.
  5. Wait a minimum of 20 minutes before logging into your METNET account. There is a time delay between account activation and availability for use. Users who try to log in without waiting will usually encounter login errors.
  6. Set a security question and answer the first time you log in. It is very important that this be done. This information is needed in the event that you forget your password and wish to reset it via the web. If you do not remember it, the only way to reset your password is to go to the computer lab at your school.
Record your security question and answer for future reference.
  7. Go to Settings (METNET Mail or WebMail 3) or Preferences (WebMail 2) to set up your signature, sent-mail folder, etc.
  8. If you are experiencing problems, please see the computer lab attendant at your school for assistance. Please be sure to bring along a photo identification.
  9. Continue to Initialize Account.
