Video Recording Update

Usage of the new Codian 2220 IP VCR is beginning to increase. Riverland College used it for two classes. Winona State and Rochester had the most use with four classes. South Central College has done one recording for use with WebCT. One meeting was also recorded. Total use so far has been 60 recorded hours. Feedback has been very positive. Several more instructors have testing it and are planning on using it for their courses.

The Codian is capable of recording in Quicktime, Real, and Windows Media file formats which can be viewed live or archived. It can be used for live video conferences and classes. Video clips can be exported to burn on CD or uploaded to other servers. More information about use of this service is available at http://www.metnet.edu/video/IP_VCR.html . Select from Quicktime, Real, or Windows Media depending upon which player is installed on your computer.

E-mail Update

The volume of E-mail passing through the spam and virus detection devices continues to increase. In the last two years E-mail volume has increased 15 fold, to over 400,000 messages per day. The amount of good E-mail has decreased from 23% to 16%.

Breeze Services

Adobe is launching version 6 of Breeze. The product is being re-branded in this new release. Breeze Meeting will be renamed "Acrobat Connect 6". Breeze Presenter will be renamed "Adobe Presenter". Adobe has not yet announced the official release date but it may be as soon as January, 2007. We will be testing Version 6 soon and a timeline for implementation will be be determined soon after. The primary focus was security and stability, with only a couple of minor new features. Some of the Breeze issues experienced during fall semester will be corrected with this new version.
