E-mail volume is up substantially. An average of over 250,000 messages per day are being received. Of these, about 80% are being filtered out by the SPAM filter. The spam filter looks for things such as high volume from a particular source, messages from black listed sources, attachments of specific types, and viruses. Even so, account owners are complaining about the high volume of junk mail they receive.
METNET does NOT send E-mail to users regarding their account status. There has been a large amount of SPAM traffic that pretends to be from METNET. Most of these messages also contain an attachment that is a virus or include a malicious web link. It is usually best to delete these messages immediately without opening them.
Also, be aware that using your METNET account to sign up for online offers, contests, etc. will bring more junk mail from non-spam sources that are not caught in the SPAM filter. Use a secondary address which you set up solely for this purpose. For a list of tips on dealing with SPAM go to the SPAM Help page.
